I personally wish I could get one of those big dumpster trucks, and just start pitching crap out the bedroom windows into it. I’m so very sick of the clutter. I’d post pictures but its really embarrassing. I’m sick to death of cleaning my counter off and it becoming so cluttered again with in just days. I need places to put things but I still dont have my shelves above my desk. I need to just get rid of stuff I dont tough I think. Like our storage and garage are stuffed full of crap, so much so that I can’t park in there, neither can you. Its a pig sty.

I can’t seem to get you on board either, which doesnt help matters. I will work hard on the kitchen to turn around and have the living room destroyed by the girls, or their room. I don’t mind that so much since they are kids and most of it is pretty easily picked back up. He brings home box after box of computer crap and servers and computers and guess where they are…. yep my dining area is full of it. I can’t even get into my desk.

I have a mission to get this place cleaned and douched out by the time I want to go to town. That way I can have someone come take care of my cats the week that we are gone. The way it is right now I even hate having people over. I want the balcony stripped of the crap thats out there. I just wish I knew how to motivate you into getting rid of stuff. He’s done the same thing to his parents house. I think sometimes his parents think its my job to influence him to get rid of the stuff. He’s a pack-rat. I am too to some extent but I’m trying to change.

I think I’ll make a list of what I want done and by when and hopefully it will get done.

I’m loving my classes more and more.
They are so much fun to have and the people around me are quite great too. We’re just finishing up our first print-making project and our second one involves foods. I want to make mine based on Wagashi. Do you know anything about wagashi? If so, let me know before next Monday.

Typography is still a little dull, but it’s getting better. I wonder what we’ll be doing tomorrow….

Quark is cool, but it’s easy. Figure drawing is something I needed to perfect for a while now. I already knew that so this class is coming to good use.

Illustration Class is by far my favourite so far. I love illustration since it involves so much. Perspective Drawing is fun too.

Still Life is by far the hardest class of all seven classes that I have. I’m not happy where I am right now, but I’m gradually improving. I’ll get it. I know I will.

I haven’t scanned any of my work yet. i haven’t had the time. I’ll try for it on Sunday.

i plan to go out to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Saturday too, since it’s free for college students to get in. I’ve wanted to go for a few months now, too.

The Mooncake Festival was on Saturday, or at least it was celebrated then. I enjoyed the festivities in Chinatown and even got to see a few friends of mine who I don’t get to see so often anymore. I even ran into a guy I went to school with back in grade nine, first year of high school. I hadn’t seen him for three years and the fact that he recognised me and remembered my name simply wowed me. Maybe I’ll get to see him a little more often now and become friends with him again.

Rather than seeing a couple of hundred unanswered email as a sign of bad karma, and/or immense popularity, here’s a perspective that might be just a tad more sensible. Simply put, I believe it’s all about making sense. To begin with, most of us have experiences. When trying to make sense out of them, we look for, and consequently apply, signs, triggers, cues, hints, patterns, knobs, handles and levers, anything we can wrap our hands and minds around, so as to make sense out of it all, or rather, select portions of it.

This is where all the trouble begins. Others have this annoying predilection of selecting other bits, and call them the significant one’s. Our bits are tested and true, valid and relevant knowledge, often highly valuable, if not downright essential and seminal. Others select bits are opinion, and needs to be resisted, and the holders of such gently nudged towards letting go of their wayward ramblings. All this usually goes on in something we usually refer to as a meeting, or a series of meetings. When we really want to have serious fun, we package all of the above into a big pile, and call it a project.

Here, I believe I’ve actually found somewhat of a solution. Rather than trying to bludgeon everyone else into seeing things your way, all the existing differences of opinion, as well as all the asymmetries wrt to what information the participants have access to, can be seen as the creative tension out of which a valuble meeting can unfold. As for how, that is a bit more complex. There’s usually a more or less unique path for each single meeting, depending on such things as participants, issue and desired outcome. This unique path, and how to optimally leverage these asymmetries, is at the heart of what we at here, do.

Increasingly, businesses need to deal with wicked problems. When trying to solve them, they frequently discover other problems, which need to be solved. And so on and so forth. Not very forth really, more like muddling through. One might also say, that our chosen solutions are co-evolving with the problem space. Now and then we get lucky, and manage to climb back down into a black box with a sufficient degree of certainty and agreement wrt a specific patch of the problem, so as to allow us to throw a set of algorithms at the mess. But mostly, we muddle, and apply heuristics.

My favourite cheat, is to start with the problem construction instead, and apply ample amounts of actions, facts and small steps, until I get something I can live with. Until the next problem appears. You might call this my preferred heuristic. Chances are you have your own preferred bag of tricks, your own set of heuristics.
